I have also heard that Black Lake is the deepest lake in NS. I read an interesting survey a while ago on over 700 NS lakes, detailed info on depth and fish species. It was old from the 60's to the 80's though so I assume some of the fish assemblages have changed since then due to illegal stocking. Here are some of the maximum depths recorded by county Unfortuntaly I don't think Black and a couple were surveyed as part of it.

Annapolis- McGill Lake (around annapolis river)- 51 feet/15.6 meters
Antigonish- Lochaber Lake- 171 feet/52.4 meters
Cape Breton- Blacketts lake 98 feet/30 meters
Colchester- Hart Lake 75 feet/22.9 meters
Cumberland- Folly lake (109 feet/33.5) and Vickerey lake (110 feet/33.6 meters)
Digby- Porcupine lake (40 feet/12.2 meters)
Guysborough- Pringle lake (85 feet/26 meters, MacPherson Lake (95 feet/29 meters) Indian harbour lake (88 feet/27 meters)
Halifax-Lake Charlotte (167 feet/51.2 meters), Lake Charles (98. 3 feet/28.4 meters), Dollar lake (109 feet/33.5),Grand Lake (118 feet/36 meters) Long Lake (99 feet/30.2 meters), Pace Lake (167 feet/51.2 meters), Porters lake (100 feet/30.5 meters), Lake William (98 feet/28.4 meters)
Hants County-Cockscomb (108 feet/33 meters) Panuke Lake (114 feet/34.8 meters)
Inverness- Lake O'law (98 feet/30 meters)
Kings-Cloud lake (52 feet/16 meters)
Lunenberg- Caribou Lake near musamush River (164 feet/50 meters)
Pictou (Black River lake (59 feet/18 meters)
Queens- Big Robertson lake (65 feet/20 meters), Kejimikujik Lake (62 feet/19.2 meters)
Richmond-Mackay lake (60 feet/18.3 meters)
Shelburne-Skudiak lake (102 feet/31.1 meters)
Victoria- Warren lake (108 feet/33 meters)
Yarmouth- Clearwater lake (74 feet/22.6 meters)

I have heard that Sherbrooke, Black and Shields are very deep lakes but no depth data in the survey was taken for Sherbrooke and Black and Shileds weren't looked at at all.

In guysborough county I have been on lakes over 100 feet back in the woods... but they were never studied..
and Indian Harbour Lake thats listed doesn't have 88 feet, the indian harbour lake that has 88 feet is called 5th Lake (in the Indian Harbour Lake system. Look it up in the inventory maps , VERY COOL INFORMATION Laurie
