IMO, any streemer in a 3-4 inch length. You need something that looks like a small baitfish. Buck tails work good.

I agree with Xlobsterman on this. The important thing for me is to have the fly moving fast. If fishing in a tide, then holding it still will make enough action to attract mackerel. If the tide is flat, the streamer will need some fast stripping. Good luck

i have had great success with a shrimp pattern(Gordie's shrimp to be exact) for mackerel and they are a blast on the fly the cod love it too so make sure you have a rod with some back bone.

What about a sabiki fly from a rig? Never tried it but have caught lots on spinning gear with them.
I was thinking the same thing. I bet a string of 5 of them tied on using the heavy line they come with would be like casting an alder branch tied on to your line, but a single sabiki ( or two ) tied on to a leader might work really well.
