I might be in NS in the end of Sep or early Oct and want to try my hand at pickerel. We dont have them here in Ontario. Any recommendations on where I should try, and where I can stay? Not sure if I'm bringing the tin boat or the canoe, but looking for recommendations on cottages, camping, or motels.

ontariomusky;
You might try the Yarmouth area. It's where the pickerel in the rest of the province came from. (They were originally illegally introduced here from NB or Maine I believe.) Standby in Ontario, recently, there have been several sightings and identifications by MNR. There is nothing really special about them. They are just like young Northern Pike. If you are driving here, you also might want to stop on your way in the Woodstock, Hartlen NB area. They have some terrific Musky fishing in the St John River which runs alongside the Trans Canada Highway. It is a relatively new fishery. Muskies NB (Clark Rayner) could help you there. Regards.....
