Just a little curious about something. Are Bluefins the only type of tuna in nova scotia waters or are some of the other species like albacore, yellowfin, bigeye ect. found here as well. If so are they very abundant?

Albacore, YFT, and Bigeye are found in our waters, and are caught incidentally by commercial longliners targeting other species. YFT, and bigeye prefer warmer water 68 to 72+ degrees Fahrenheit, and albacore prefer cooler water in the 63-65 degree range.

The main reason you do not hear much of these fish being caught, is because of the lack of any sport fishery for these fish in Atlantic Canada. The North East US has a thriving sport fishery, but here in Atlantic Canada the Gov. has yet to recognize the social & economic value of a sport fishery in our waters??????
