Does anyone know if its legal to spear a flounder with a pointy instrument instead of angling it? I figure spear guns are probably not allowed but what about Hawaiian slings or a good old knife while snorkeling or scuba diving?

You would never lose fishing line, and you would never harm one that is too small to bother keeping.

It is legal to spearfish for everything saltwater you can with a rod, no big commercial fish though (tuna). Just make sure to keep the spears out of freshwater, you might get yourself in big trouble, along with keeping bag limit ragulations. Oh! also spearfishing in tidal waters is open all day, everyday of the year.
