Waterlevels in Middlton Spring low ,but when the power dam opens the gates to generate, the water jumps up two feet.Made a great Sat Day Afternoon. Hers a funny story from that afternoon fish a friend two Newphewsand 10year old were fishing theyoungest on my right and the other 2 on my left. The bite was on a the newphews started trash talking to me about catching shad. I was smiling and getting a kick out of this when the uncle spoke out and said no hat but remember boys his Mo jo is strong. The boys were ribbing me about no hooking up for about 10 mins. I was taking a drink and retying my fly combo rig. Steve we got anpother one on,whats wrong, they had hooked up about 4 times each and the young en on my right was smiling and hooking up.Then I cast fish on 9 times in a row, Jeff was laughing at this point .He Quoted. Don't mess with us masters. The ones who were ribbing me in a sqeaky voice , leave some fish for us Steve. By the way Jeffs defenition of a master fisher of Shad . You can fish in any part of the river and catch shad .In my books 15years and the same skiil he's a Master too. S o are his two oldest. I even showed them the secrets of the slot and they have mastered them. I did show the whole group that were ther on Sun am. a 1ft by ft decribition on how you fit the slot, then both times I hooked up at the end.The fly fisher who i fished with on Sat pm said I got it down to a mathamatical formula. I seen him in action. Another funny thing I noticed every time my trucks in the usuall spot local people show up because as it ws explained to me ,If stephen here the shad are here.:)

Made it down to Midelton yesterday, on the way down was rain and a bug storm. My poor truck. Hit the river at 6.15 and two guys one of which i had fished off and on with was there. We both got into the fish quick. and it was a 3 to4 cast hook up am .till about 9:30 It got quite so i decided to head up the nixtau to the next corner. Fish on for the next hour. I had company a elderly Chinese fishermen joined me and i tried everything to get him into a fish. After a while the fish moved on and I headed down a landed two from the slot had enough and headed down for a BBq at the park. At 1:30 i heade back up to a point with 2 person on it I slipped into the Nixtau and lined up and started,. It was slow and you would get 3 or 4 then it would go quite .Step out for a drink go back and 2 or 3 more. Some young ins were there and I let them play 2 each. It shut right down at 5:30 and i headed up the Nixtau. No fish at the old bridge ,none at the corner. Thought for a minute spot X the wood pile. Nasty spot to fisho_O As I walked to it i notice huge #s of fish in themiddle of the river.Repelled down the high back reached up for my rod and turned to 500 fish 6ft from me. All by myself:) Fish on the stuck in one log , Got the next stuck in the bank across the river. Put on a put on a Special and fish on for the next 1.5 hr constant. Very up close and personel with no drag on fishing:) I use fighting star rear drags on the 2000 Shimanos. After about 24 landed i decided it was time to climb out, up goes the rod then I pull myself up and two persons are staring at me . I had appeared out of nowhere. they were looking at my gear and bucket as i had pulled mysef up. The young couple were out exploring the river when the encountered me alone. They were full of Questions and I had to show them .Her comment Oh My god There like Sharks with 100of fins sticking out of the water. I told them how to get in if they wanted to chance it. Headed down a met up with one of my friends from down there. He was telling me up at the car bridge down to where i was, solid fish in the middle of the river.Chatted for 20min then headed home. Got a few tails from last MaYS FISHING. THE RIVER WAS A LONELY PLACE.

Well here's the report for Sun.Arrived to for 6;00am 2 others were there off loading thier gear .That made 4 people at the point. Nobody else on the river. The fish were in full spawn mode and soft. Put a pink special and cranked it fast in the first 12 in of water. The ground game was over(3in off bottom). Was succesfull out front right off to the disbelief of the other 2 who were their earlier.I landed 4 then switched to the Nixtau and got into the school at the mouth of the river landed 10 total .It was slow so i headed it up to the wood pile . Myself and 2000 fish lined up above and down the river 75y. Fish on and i landed 24 more plus many hook ups and pulled off. Packed it in and walked down to the point sliped into the Nixtau and hooked up on 5 more. Then headed to the park for lunch. Had just fired the BBQ and was burning off the old grease when a younger lady walked out od the bush in the front of me. Her words I reconize you from all the times you were here and on the river. I commented and you were there helping the young guy wth the dead Jetta the week before. Any how she commented how good the BBQ smelled I asked her if she was hungry, she said she was starved. so I said wait for 20 you won't be. So after the sausages were cooked I served up to of them ontoasted buns with Cheese and Honey Mustard. Was told best deer meat she had ever eaten. Niane packed up with her extra Sausage and headed to tim hortons. She was camping down riverfor the summer. At 1:30 I went back up to the point 2 fish then up to the wood pile ,insane how many fish i hooked for the afternoon buy 6:30pm(100hookups 80 landed)o_O. Cast 15ft hook up in 5ft play the fish all around you keeping them out of the fallen trees a wood all around you.Walked down the point hooked up inthe Nixtau 10 more and soalized with the bother of a fishing friends and left for the evening.:)I was alone up river all the time thought the day:cool:

Hear is my report, Went right to the wood pile on what i call the hidden trail, 7 in a row then it was wait till they cam back and another 10 in a row with many hook upsand pull offs. This went on till about 10:30am and i met Jeff and his boy ,they were on there way up.I stepped out as they slid down and in. 40+ fish later.Fished at the point dfor 3hrs with some luck in the slot all fish up high in full spawn mode. A friend Dwain showed up and joined me with a smile and comment " go figure your fishing the slot again"After about 20min we decided to hit the wood pile. Started up and ran into jeff whom said it was empty up there so we joined him hitting the spawning schools on the nose no joke. The up river side would bite. After i chased them up and down to the point. At 5;30pm we headed up to the woodpile and started to hook up. At 6:30 myself and Dwain called it and Jeff climbed out. We talked for10mins and the agreed idea was for a home made ladder for this spot.Jeff asked me if I would be back again next weekend but said my goodbyes AND WE UPDATED PHONE#. Will probably down with another friend for am fishes from know on thru the week. for the next two. Alot or scaleless Shad. The horrors have begun. Had two big ones on and in 6lbs.

Another thing we were talking about was the lack of the usual fishers this year. We discussed the high fuel costs and the broken tratitions the the shut down last year by the Gov. caused. The local guys i had fished with other years said last year in May, it was one lonely river with very small #s of local fishers. Allso said not alot of fish caught. To think of all the lost memories and good times lost:( thanks to doctor Strange Love(n)
Well it looks like its all over for this year for myself . hung up the waders, put the darts away. Fired up the boat last week and went smallie fishing.Haven't lost my touch at that either.:) Will be sending a special dart pkg to one of our sponsors for our L2f. He fishes a bigger river across the bay of Fundy from my home NB.Cherry bombs and Green Thing ect. This was a different year with fish #s down. lets hope for lots of water in the rivers for the fry this year.
