If it's an older model, yes, it may have been a Hardy. Hardy made Orvis reels for them until sometime in the 1960's. Orvis then switched to Young as its supplier in the 1970's I believe (still say "made in England" on them), and then BFR became their manufacturer for the Battenkills (also English) in the 1980s. I am not certain of who the maker is now, but I know some people complained in the last few years (since 2005) because some Orivs Batenkill reels have been manufactured in China or Korea, I looked at my most recent and it does not say "made in England", but it does not indicate where it was made (2 year old reel). It is still (a Battenkill Mark 4 LA) a super reel and was used for bonefish last year with no issues at all!
