Ontario Regulations?

Hey everyone. I am going to Ontario in a couple of weeks and i'm going to be staying in Port Dover with family. So the first thing i thought of was fishing on lake erie. Just wondering if anyone knows if my Nova Scotia fishing license is valid, or do I have to buy a license there, because if so not sure if its worth it for one day of fishing. Have a busy week there so can only go fishing one day. On the bright side, im goin to Bass Pro Shops for the first time, and i'm very excited for that!!!!

Hey BrianD,

You will need to purchase a Canadian Resident Outdoors card as well as a Ontario Fishing Licence.

Here is a link to give you the information you need: Fishing in Ontario

Probably, not worth it for one day. But, you'll have to be the judge of that.

Have a good and safe trip.

A non-resident can buy a "Canadian Resident Temporary Fishing Outdoors Card and Application." Visit the link below for a summary. You can also buy licences for shorter periods.

Erie is great for bass, walleye and perch. You can sign up at the NFN site (also linked below) to ask any specific questions regarding methods, etc. The site admin is a Fort Erie resident, and many of the members are Lake Erie pros, so there's a wealth of info there.

You'll also want to review this:

Zone 16 (Lake Erie) regulations.

I just checked and a single-day non-resident licence can be bought without an Outdoors Card for $20.75. Check the document linked below:

Ontario Angling Licences

Hope this helps.
Coachman is wrong, you need to purchase a canadian resident license, not a temporary resident. Temporary is for imigrants or tourists from out of country. They won't rip you off like the license I had to buy here for non resident. You also don't need to buy the outdoors card, just the day license. (I recently travelled back home for a conference and all the members from Nova Scotia received day licenses. Hope this helps coming from someone from ontario.

Actually I was incorrect about the price. But a non-Ontario resident who is a resident of Canada can buy a one-day licence (the price is actually 12.38, not as I reported above, 20.75). See page five, in the RH column for the price.

Check the single sentence below the first paragraph on the link below: "Note: An Outdoors Card is not required for a one-day fishing licence."

Thanks for all the info guys, probably not going to bother for one day. Although things may change once I get there. Especially after my trip to bass pro shops!!

I was in the Bass Pro Shop in a town north of Toronto, It was a place words can't describe! HUGE. It had a float plane hanging from the ceiling that I thought was a model...until I realized the size of the store made it look small. I imagine that's what all sports stores look like in the U.S A. Its worth the trip.
