Hi
Have never fished Grand Lake for smelts - I understand that folks fish them at the south end of the lake near the canal - seems to be just private driveways there - where do you park / walk on from?
Tks

You can park beside the canal were Fletchers lake runs into Grand Lake. Was there today and not much ice. Keep the boat ready.

no body gets on the lake there
theres to much current and it never freezes full

most of the people i know who fish grand for smelts know someone
and can access the lake from the someones property

Thanks for the advice - did not mean to stir any controversy - I guess I will have to park at the bridge and steer carefully around the channel -- that is when we get some decent Ice.
I have always used blood worms or shrimp when fishing smelts in salt water - what goes down well for these Grand lake smelts?

I disagree I have seen people on 4 wheelers enter the lake there towing sleds. If the ice isn't safe there it probably isn't in the channel were people fish. If you keep to the left you will not be in the current. What makes you the expert?

DID I say i was a expert
i guess i will put it this way
in the last 2 years i havent seen one person come through there
which is a good thing cuz theres been open water there almost all winter
for that last 2 year
there is a load of current converging there coming from the 2 runs that coming in
also the shallow water with vegetation contributes to thin ice

and as for the ice not being safe in the channel
well ya got me there cuz everyone i know fish smelt well out into the
lake would be a good 20min hike from the wadra boat launch

anyways Nemo if we get enough ice this winter
get intouch with one of us guys who fish out there
and we will get you on the lake with out you needing to swim

Boatlaunch no ice u do the math. He asked were he could access the lake. Something about all driveways Duh.

what point are you trying to make here
he wanted to know where to access/get on the lake
and you pointed him at possibly one of the most dangers areas
to try to get on in the winter

and when some of guys who have resent experience with fishing the
lake in the winter point this out you come
back to flap your lips about it

what it comes down to is grand lake can be a very difficult lake to access in the winter
most of the public access is either a good long walk in before you get to the lake
or not exactly the safest place to be walking on the ice

o I'm sorry I thought this was a discussion form. I have live on grand lake four 8 years so i guess maybe I fished a couple of times. Too bad AH like you are on this site would be a lot nicer. Hows that 4 flapping my lips!

i dont see you discussing anything
you pointed someone a what i and other know to me a dangerous place to
try and access grand lake during the winter
we commented about it
and you have been running your mouth about it ever sense
but at no point have put forth any info to disprove
the fact thats there tons of current there that creats unsafe ice
conditions almost every year
in 09 there was near 2ft of ice on grand and you still couldnt get on the
lake there

now im not saying people havent got on the ice there but
i am saying people shouldnt
and nobody i have fished with out there does

as to the fact that you have lived on grand lake for 8 year
and fished it all i will say to that is (so)

i wasnt looking to argue over this
was just trying to keep a fellow member safe

if you can prove that that is a safe point access the lake on the
ice then prove it
if not im done listening to this and the discussion is closed

P.S to all members if i see a post with unsafe advise
or if you see one let me know and they will be removed
they will not be debated
i want nothing on this site to lead to anyone getting
hurt

944 what's your problem? I have fished that lake all my life and know for a fact that the boat launch is a known dangerous spot for ice conditions if you wanna try, go for it but I highly suggest you and everyone else stays away from that section. I have persoannly never had the chance to fish through the ice on grand for the simple fact its to dangerous to walk out from the boat launch

I think somebody needs a life. All I said was 4 wheelers entered the lake there. I quess you idiots are too busy trying to trash other members. Hope it makes you feel good

consider yourself warned
i let the last bit of attitude slide
but im getting sick of it

you didnt just say 4 wheelers got on the lake
you told someone unfamilier with grand lake on the ice that he could access the lake there
when i and others state other wise for safty reason you came back to comment
but still have not made one clear argument for why its a wise / safe place to access
the lake

now your down to name calling
