Yup, its 6 hooks max. My link to those regs no longer works because DFO has completely changed their website. Anyone have the new links please post them. TERRAN had a thread with a lot of info with links to their site, but I suspect those are in in need of updating too.

No one is allowed to:

angle in tidal waters for sportfish with more
than 1 fishing line or with a fishing line to
which more than 3 hooks are attached.

• angle in tidal waters for non-sportfish with
more than 5 fishing lines or with a fishing line
to which more than 6 hooks are attached.

I believe so. According to http://laws-lois.jus...5/fulltext.html “tidal waters”

“tidal waters” means, in relation to a county or province, all waters, other than inland waters, that are

  • (a) within that county or province, or

  • (b) adjacent to that county or province and closer to that county or province than to any other county or province; (eaux à marée)

Well, fair enough, but its 6 hooks max in tidal waters and 3 at most in non tidal.

Since "all waters" of a province that are not "inland waters" are considered "tidal waters", then the ocean is most definitely "tidal". I mean it follows the tide and is definitely not "inland"

there a few places very close to me that fill up with the tide, and empty with the tide for fishing grounds, but most places that I catch mackerel you can catch them any time of day, just from a public accessed wharf

I was talking to some local DFO officer's, they told me there really isn't a hook limit for mackerel
