Hey i am wondering if anyone has been out to check the smaller lakes like penhorn, meadow pond, lewis lake etc., lots of rain the other night but with 12" on some lakes i would like to see if that was enough to withstand it. Any info is appreciated.

Matt

Think I am gonna head out soon, and try the south half of Kinsac. Drill a few test holes as I start out. If I see anything 4" or less I am turning right back. Less than 6" I keep drilling holes.  :)

I was out at meadow today. The ice around the edges had a couple inches of water on it. closer to the middle the ice was 7-8 inches thick. So if you are planning on going bring some waterproof boots.

I was out on Kinsac this evening. Some of the edges look rough, but I found a decent looking spot and drilled 6".  Started walking out from there, and my ice fishing holes all recorded a shade over 8" each. Upper ice is whiteish though, with fair amount of little air bubbles in it, while the lower half appears more clear.

Thanks for the updates gents. I ended up at penhorn there was 9-12" of ice on the lake and managed to get a trout. May try out albro lake depending on how this weather tonight affects the ice.

Did you have any luck on kinsac OleNewfieDog?

Feb 22. Ice on one HRM lake was good in the AM but as the day progressed it deteriorated quickly. By mid afternoon there was 2-4 inches of slush and 2-4 inches of water on top of that. There was still a good 6-8 inches of good ice under that but it was getting softer as the day went on. Any spots that were clear of water had more slush. Cracks were draining water and any spots there were leafs or other debris the sun was creating melt holes right threw the ice. The water was running down my holes like they were flushing toilets. One of the first 5" holes I cut was closer to 8 inches at the top within a few hrs from the running water.  The fishing was slow to dead. Only had one bump all day.
