I think this site should be check out at all times  for reasons as ,My son loves fishing,Now he has been up set because of  nasty people on here ...Fishing was his thing and loves it . topic that was said was ,He hook a fish the wrong way but you cant help that ...Another was oh you kept the fish out too long, the next thing you didn't let it sit in the water long enough before you let it go!To the men that have to be like this ,you should not be on here if you have to be nasty to a thirteen year old .....To the man whom owns the  store in town ,you should be ashamed of your self....Very ashamed   to have something to say when he ask if you knew who it was that said this stuff!.....All these people are just jealous I

....Suck it up men and grow up!You should be prasing him than shooting your mouth off!!!!I think that whom made this site should  look through these messages and kick them off here.......I hope something is done about this...I will tell you ,you discouraged my son from fishing and he didn't even do anything wrong.....He always correct people if they have a worm on or anything..ASAP Bonita <_<  <_<

Don't let it discourage him. I have not read what happened, but I have been fishing all my life and have made all those mistakes. Good things to learn, maybe not the way he did. Stay in the water and buy your tackle elsewhere bud :)

There are some critical people on this site (and any site) that don't tolerate how others do things, don't know how to recognise the age and skill level of the person posting and thus what should be a measured response, and sometimes have a difficult time putting the "constructive" in constructive criticism.

He shouldn't take it to heart; it's only the internet. Lots of big talk that doesn't mean a hill of beans.

Tell him to have fun on the water this spring!

Bonita Jamie answered his question that he asked when he had posted this thread..... http://novascotiafis...ack/#entry63714

Justin assumed someone on this site was spreading rumors . It had nothing to do with this site , it was locals on the rivers who said what happened when he hooked (Jigged) these fish from using a sinking leader .No sportsman is jealous of this . I never witnessed it either but we herd all about it in the fly shop and on the river bank's the next day . The thing about a fly shop is it gets all the news from all the anglers so don't go putting Jamie down cause he answered your sons questions  on a open forum. He wants to know who I am also as I sent him a PM in ( May ) about his love of the sport that most if not all would look down on what he did , and you were the one to blurt it out at a "Fly Shop"   . I did not post it on here for respect of a young angler who has no one to guide him in the right direction at times . I will tell him who I am when I cross his path on the river banks again this spring . I know he learned his lesson and loves the sport  . He has to let the water run off his back and keep on keeping on . 20 years from now he will be the one teaching young anglers the way it should be . I used to be just like him at that age but didn't learn till some one showed me the right way .

Fact is a young person with what seems like a huge interest in the sport has had his feelings hurt by adults. I useto be this kid 20 years ago and I can tell you probably more then anything he just wants to fit in and feel accepted. He may very well of taken comments the wrong way or taken them to much to heart.
I dont know the full story here at all but I do know it seems a goodhearted young fella has had his feelings hurt by adults.
I was lucky 20 years ago to be taken under a few legends wings and am grateful for everything they taught me. Thats all this kid needs is proper instruction guidance and patience.
Remember once again he is a child and it takes a village folks.
If your son is ever in cape breton id be more then happy to offer a few days of guiding at no charge. Just pm me for info

I am not totally sure as to what occurred here? Perhaps a young guy was the target of some older fishers? Not sure. What I will say to the families and others is that the Hants West Wildlife Association is starting a Youth Mentorship Program, this on top of their Learn to Fish Program. They have some volunteer Hunters/Fishers who have agreed to take young folk out in the woods, whether Hunting/Fishing/Woods skills or simply observations, they will pass on many skills and knowledge to those that partake in this program. From the meeting I attended several weeks ago, I believe that some of this might start as early as this spring, I know one of the volunteer's placed that on the table, he would take young folks beginning this spring fishing, then in the fall hunting.  Perhaps this young fellow and any other young fellows might benefit from this.  The HWWA is a leader in Youth Outdoor activities IMO.

I keep my head held high and smile, because there are people who will kill to see me fall.

Hope you didn't take my post out of context . I believe sinking tips are great tool for anglers when conditions are fit for it . I was showing the young anglers mother where he is getting all upset . I could of came into his thread then and told him the same thing , but in my PM to Justin I told him I would never answer to anymore of his post again . This is in May . Ever since then he has been wondering who I am and I am pretty sure " but not certain " that he thought it was me telling people about what happened that day on the river . If you hook a fish on the river you know how fast the news travels , he cant come on a site and start pointing fingers at people. Jamie Caddick is the only one owed a apology in this whole ordeal as he gets all the news from every angler . There was no one spreading rumors , just people talking about a kid who foul hooked a fish  in low water conditions .  He admitted that the fish was foul hooked and there is no harm in it as long as he learned if the conditions were right at the time .

Like I said at the top of the thread here , no one on this site said anything about Justin , he  just has to realize that when you hook a fish on a salmon river that when you get to tim Hortons 20 minutes later your fish can grow 20lbs . All you have to do is laugh and drink your coffee with a grin .

This is my last post on this topic ....tight lines in 2014

The point of my post is that there is and always has been a lot of politics in salmon fishing. Venting on fishing forum will not help stop this. People will say what they are going to say, heck I grew up fishing the Lahave that had the reputation of not being a very friendly place to fish to say the least.  It never stopped me. In fact it taught me to seek out the places fish hold that no-one else bothered with so I could fish in peace. The Town pool and unfortunately salmon fishing generally in this province has become a circus. My advice to Justin and his family is not to buy in to the inevitable chatter that occurs on our rivers.  Some people can't stand it when a young person outfishes them or uses a method they do not agree with. Just keep fishing and enjoy the sport while it still exists. A last word of advice is when after salmon in low water sinking gear has little to no advantage and will greatly increase the chance of foul hooking a fish and disturb them when they are stressed especially in deep slow moving areas like the Town Pool. Instead seek out some fast moving water and fish the deepest area in the run that is usually at the start of a pool. Lots of places like this up river. The water is oxygenated here and the fish will be more active in my experience.

well im glad that is over with. 9 or 90 fishing is always a learning experince...... now about this worm farm business ive been trying to raise worms in the garage but with no success. they never seem to multiply sooo I had a brilliant idea I mixed Viagra in with the soil, well let me tell you it didn't make any more worms but now you cant bend them to put them on a hook.... sorry thought this thread could use a laugh

One day a rather inebriated ice fisherman drilled a hole in the ice and peered into the hole and a loud voice said, "There are no fish down there."

He walked several yards away and drilled another hole and peered into the hole and again the voice said, "There's no fish down there."

He then walked about 50 yards away and drilled another hole and again the voice said, "There's no fish down there."

He looked up into the sky and asked, "God, is that you?"

"No, you idiot," the voice said, "it's the rink manager."

my 2 cents for what its worth.....i feel the need to share as i've been in said fly shop with these people and can say from my experience the young lad was treated with respect, even"toning it down" for the little ears from what the norm would be after hours once the sign read closed and the vices came out. i'm not sure about all the he said she said BS but like it or not its part of fishing and a fact of the matter that you gotta have tough skin, especialy when your fly fishing for salmon in this end of the country (probably any part of the country from what i gather). True, he is a boy, but he's playing what is largely considered a mans game, and one that tends to bring out the boy in most of us, so "suck it up and grow up" probably wont happen.

A message to Bonita, I dont think your helping the situation or your son by coming on here and calling people out. From what I gather he has made quite afew friends through his fishing exploits and maybe you should let this be a lesson to him that it's not all sunshine and lollipops in the real world. If the worst that happens is some hurt feelings thats not so bad in the grand scheme is it? I'm sure he is doing some growing up and maybe this is just a part of that process?

Anyway I hope your son continues to fish and enjoy the great resource we have here.

cheers
