I watched an episode of Canadian Sportsfishing where he was fishing for Brown trout in the mountain rivers/streams. I believe its a self sustaining population but the fish do not grow very large due to the cold, low nutrient waters in the mountains.

Brown trout were introduced to India in 1863 from Germany but there are also rainbow trout from hatcheries. There are several rivers in the Himalayas such as the Bespa River that are maintained by large hatcheries and produce more large fish than small. The trout fisheries there do not get as much attention due to the Mahseer fishery. I love watching fishing shows from india and would love to venture there one day.

here is a link for more info. BTW - I watch a lot of foreign fishing shows lol.
