Here is a story about a group of volunteers who are teaching children to fish. They meet every Friday at the Bedford South Jetty off of Dewolf Park. See you there!

"In these sad and ominous days of mad fortune chasing, every patriotic, thoughtful citizen, whether he fishes or not, should lament that we have not among our countrymen more fishermen."  Grover Cleveland

We had our kids down to this yesterday evening, and its a nice little gig. Kids went fishing, had hot dogs, and went home either with a prize or a little back to school gift. The club is approx 250 families strong now.

It has really taken off...I think they even did a trip to Kearney Lake, so teaching the kids fresh and salt.

Angie, Ron, Paul and gang do a fantastic job with this little club. I was helping out just after they got it going...we were excited when it was up to 55 families. 250!!!! Thats insane. So happy. You really have to go down there just to see the kids and how they enjoy themselves, even in the rain wearing garbage bags. :D They have a facebook page too. HiLiner in Bayer's Lake and other businesses have sponsored the Little Fisher's.

Keep up the good work and I can only hope that Waterfront Development Corporation(WDC) doesn't screw it up for the kids. The south jetty is "owned" by WDC, which is a Crown corporation. They would love nothing more than to infill that whole area and build condos galore. We in Bedfor have been battling them for several years. They want to infill a natural reef where juvenile fish feed and it's also a staging area for salmon and other fish going up Sackille River. They have already filled up to one side of Crosby Island (now peninsula).

Congratulations guys on making this initiative to get kids out with family's a huge success!
