I was out fishing a new lake/pond tonight and when it got past 1730 I noticed a family of beavers - mom, pop and at least 2 youngsters - swimming over from the other side to feed. I hadn't had any bites but I did notice minnows and other fish ranging from 0.5" to about 3" in size close to shore.
Any advice on the best way to proceed if beavers are noticed in the water? Stop fishing and move away or just continue as they'll stay away?
Quite a coincidence, I was fishing at a lake last night with a friend, when a beaver swam right past us. It didn't care in the least that we were there. It also didn't scare the fish away, even though I thought it would.
Thanks everyone. I was a little unsure how they'd react and so thought I'd best ask just to be safe. Didn't really feel like going back to the car all battered and scratched then having to explain to the nice RCMP that I'd just been assaulted by a beaver.
Otters, however, are extremely aggressive with young, and will attack.
