Last year, after more than 30 years of fishing, I finally had to go to the ER to have a hook removed... worst experience EVER! Even a few nurses came by to look and the faces they made was NOT inspiring lol
Ouch, 2 summers ago my wife put a 3/4 ounce treble minnow deep into her scalp. It is nasty. Probably an excellent reason to pinch off the barbs as it is easy to remove the hook from your body.
1. I slowly worked the hook out backwards while pushing down on the shank of the hook, there's a technique to this and its relativity painless once you know what to do
2. My buddy is EXTREMELY squeamish and after he saw the hook in my finger he damn near passed out and had to literally curl up in the seat of the boat in the fetal position until I got it out and was unable to assist in the removal so I don't think he needed a black eye lol. BUT my wife is tough and had no problem helping me yank it out.
Happened to me last summer with a 15 inch brown trout on the other treble on my rapala. Only choice was to rip it right throughthe skin on my thumb. Not a pleasant experience!
