CASA - Canadian Association of Smallmouth Anglers

Canadian Association of Smallmouth Anglers

PO Box 2051, Fall River, Nova Scotia, Canada B2T 1K6

New Tournament Rules

In order to make our tournaments less competitive and to emphasize the family orientation of our tournaments by placing more emphasis on camaraderie, the following changes were adopted by the membership at our AGM.

a.                    all CASA tournaments will be team events with teams consisting of one or more people up to the number of people permitted in the boat as prescribed by Coast Guard regulations;

b.                   each team may weigh in five (5) fish, the winning team to be determined by the heaviest combined weight.  Ties to be broken by the lunker fish;

c.                    there will be a ban on pre-fishing tournament waters the day prior to the tournament;

d.                   all team members must be CASA members and all membership and tournament entry fees must be paid prior to the commencement of the tournament;

e.                    only CASA supplied weigh-in bags will be permitted for weigh-in purposes;

f.                     random boat checks (via draw system) will be incorporated.  These checks will include inspection of safety equipment, fish care capabilities and fishing licenses.  These boat checks will take place at the weigh-in site or other designated site;

g.                   no boat will be permitted to leave the weigh-in site or designated boat inspection site prior to 6:00 a.m.  A team arriving at the weigh-in site or designated boat check site after 6:00 a.m. will still be required to perform the boat check draw; and

h.                   there will continue to be no minimum length for weighing in a fish.

The following changes to the points and awards system were also adopted:

a.                   Anglers of the Year – the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd heaviest single day tournament weights of the season will be awarded.  All anglers in the boat during the noted tournament will be awarded.  The Anglers of the Year awards will encompass the three regular season tournaments as well as the Iron Man tournament;

b.                   Season Tournament Lunker – teams must indicate which angler in the boat caught the lunker fish.  The angler who has caught the largest lunker during the season’s tournament wins.  The Season Lunker Award will encompass all five 2005 CASA tournaments; and

c.        Angler Participation Award – anglers will receive one (1) participation ballot for each tournament that they participate in.  One (1) bonus participation ballot for each junior in the boat will be awarded to each senior angler in the boat.  At the end of the year a draw will take place for the Angler participation prize
